What is the United Way?
Locally Based
24 Member Board
Caring professionals working together raising funds to provide human care services to many area citizens annually.

To accomplish this mission, volunteers:

  • Raise funds for a wide variety of health and social services;
  • Distribute these funds effectively, based on the community's needs, to 42 local agencies providing services in St. Joseph County;
  • Help develop and coordinate health and social programs;
  • Serve as a central resource in planning and providing community-wide services; and
  • Communicate with the public to broaden the understanding and knowledge of human service needs and the resources required to meet those needs.
  Our United Way office is independent and locally governed by a board of volunteers who represent diverse segments of the community. Knowledgeable volunteers raise funds and allocate these funds to appropriate local programs, based on community need. Volunteers carry out the great majority of United Way activities. The United Way office employs an Executive Director to help carry out the day-to-day operations and provide management and direction.
